Pre-Trip Checklist
Getting ready for your trip is simple, and we’ll make sure you’re fully prepared for a smooth day on the water. Please read this trip guide to make sure you are prepared for your memorable adventure.
All Deschutes steelhead and lower river trout trips begin at Heritage Landing at the mouth of the Deschutes. For fly fishing trips, we provide lunch, bottled water, Gatorade, and a full selection of rods and gear. Gear fishing trips typically do not include lunch, so plan accordingly. You’re always welcome to bring your favorite fly rod if you prefer.
We can provide waders and wading boots, and we’ll work with you ahead of time to secure your Deschutes boater pass—this is included in the price of your trip.
Before arriving, please make sure you have:
- An Oregon fishing license
- A combined angling tag (included with 1- or 3-day licenses)
- A Columbia River Endorsement
When purchasing your license, you may either purchase a paper license in store (Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer, Englund Marine, etc.), or you may purchase online at The ODFW Website, then you must download the myODFW app on a mobile device through the app store. You will then be asked to login with your ODFW account to sync your purchase. Please complete this before you begin your trip.
For safety and comfort on the river, felt-bottom wading boots are highly recommended, as the Deschutes’ basalt riverbed can be very slick. Studded boots are allowed in the boat, and a wading staff can be a big help. Rubber-soled boots are not recommended, as they do not provide adequate traction.
Parking at Heritage Landing is free.
